I try to install skype got error message and found some solutions to fix this issue in easy way .
simple installation guide on installing Skype for Linux in Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit
Step : 1
First install the dependencies by this command in a terminal window
$sudo apt-get install lsb-core ia32-libs libqt4-dbus libqt4-network libqt4-xml libasound2
$sudo apt-get -f install
Step : 2
Then, download the 64 bit deb package from the official website by:
$wget -O skype_Ubuntu-current_amd64.deb http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-ubuntu-64
Step : 3
Now, install skype:
$sudo dpkg -i skype_Ubuntu-current_amd64.deb
$sudo apt-get -f install
Step : 4
Have fun and Enjoy the Skype 🙂
I’d like to know why this 64-bit program requires so many 32-bit libraries. I had to run apt-get -f install to get that working, because there were a lot of unmet dependencies giving the list you said needed to be installed. All of them are 32 bit libraries and programs.
Skype doesn’t have a 64bit native version for linux, so its a 32bit wrapped version, hence the need of the 32bit libs. Also considering they were acquired by Microsoft, don’t expect a native 64bit version.
